This article will explain how to use the Dispute software to purchase and start a round of defendant's service from a process server. They will make up to 4 attempts at one address and provide documentation for you to file with the court.
Prerequisites:
A small claims case, successfully filed through Dispute
Instructions:
Step 1:
Begin by opening your dashboard and heading to the successfully filed small claims case. You'll see your small claims documents with the status "Court Accepted" and the option to start Defendant Service below. Click the red "Start" button when you are ready for our assistance.
Step 2:
Review the documents Dispute will serve and the courthouse associated with your small claims case. Click "Serve using Dispute" if you want our assistance with this. You can also hire a process server outside of our services.
Step 3:
Review the "Start Defendant Service" screen and click "Start" when you are ready to purchase our assistance.
Step 4:
Review the case details and click "Confirm" when you are ready to continue.
Step 5:
"View" the documents that will be served and click "Confirm" when you are ready to continue.
Step 6:
Your answers here will help Dispute accurately serve your documents. Answer if you are having us serve a person or a business, and click "Next" when you are ready.
Step 7:
Enter the name of the person (or business) you would like to be served and click "Next."
Step 8:
Enter the gender of the person you would like served. You can also answer "unknown" or "Does not apply." Click "Next" to continue.
Step 9:
(Optional) Enter the servee's race if you know it and click "Next" or "Skip" to move forward.
Step 10:
(Optional) Enter the servee's approximate age. Click "next" or "skip" to proceed.
Step 11:
Add any other information you wish to share with the process server to help them serve the other party successfully.
Step 12:
(Optional) Add a photo of the person you would like served. Click "Next" or "Skip" to continue.
Step 13:
Confirm the address where the process server should serve the other party. Click "Next" to move forward.
Step 14:
Answer if any of the following is true about the address provided. Click "Next" to move forward.
Step 15:
Confirm you are confident or understand the risk of serving at this address. Click "Next" to move forward.
Step 16:
Review the specifics of the service. Click either "Yes, I agree" or "No." Click "Finish" when you are ready to move forward.
Step 17:
Confirm the price to serve the other party. Click "pay and serve" to pay and start the service.
Step 18:
Congratulations! You have purchased a round of defendant's service.
Your dashboard will update to reflect your purchase, and Dispute will begin to serve within seven days of your purchase.
